Israel Says It Struck Hezbollah Sites in Southern Lebanon After Evacuation Warnings

Israel says the raids aim to stop Hezbollah from rebuilding despite a 2024 ceasefire.

Overview

  • After publicly urging residents to leave specific buildings in Deir Kifa and Chahour, the Israeli military said it struck what it described as Hezbollah infrastructure, and Lebanese state media reported raids in both villages.
  • The military said it is currently conducting strikes on Hezbollah targets and later issued additional evacuation notices for buildings in Ainata and Tayr Felsay.
  • Lebanon’s health ministry reported one person killed and 11 wounded in a strike on a vehicle in Tiri, where Israel said it killed a Hezbollah member and ANI said the victim worked for the local municipality as a bus carrying 26 students passed.
  • Israeli statements said two additional Hezbollah members were killed in other operations.
  • The latest attacks follow months of low-intensity clashes since a November 2024 ceasefire as U.S. pressure on Lebanese authorities to disarm Hezbollah has increased and Hezbollah refuses to do so; a day earlier, the health ministry reported 13 deaths in the Ain al-Hilweh refugee-camp area.
