Israel Says Drone Strikes in Southern Lebanon Kill Senior Hezbollah Figure and Two Operatives

The military frames the killings as efforts to remove threats during a fragile truce.

Overview

  • IDF officials said three strikes were carried out hours apart in Yater, near Bint Jbeil, and in the Jwaya area of southern Lebanon.
  • Israel later identified the Jwaya target as Zakaria Yahya al-Hajj, whom it described as a senior Hezbollah operative who activated agents in Lebanon’s security systems and suppressed internal dissent.
  • The Yater strike targeted an operative the IDF said was working to restore Hezbollah’s military infrastructure in the south.
  • The strike near Bint Jbeil killed a figure the IDF called Hezbollah’s local representative, responsible for coordinating with residents on financial and military matters and for seizing private assets for the group’s use.
  • Lebanese outlets reported vehicle strikes and at least two deaths, while Israel accused Hezbollah of violating ceasefire understandings and pledged to continue acting against perceived threats.
