Overview

  • On July 21, the IDF ordered 50,000–80,000 people in central Gaza’s Deir al-Balah to evacuate south before launching combined air and ground operations.
  • UN OCHA says that 87.8 percent of Gaza is now under evacuation or military orders, leaving 2.1 million civilians squeezed into just 12 percent of the territory.
  • A 25-truck World Food Programme convoy was fired on by Israeli tanks, snipers and other gunfire on July 20, and Gaza’s Health Ministry reports at least 85 Palestinians were killed.
  • The Israeli military maintains that its forces fired warning shots at crowds it deemed threatening and disputes the higher death toll reported by Palestinian authorities.
  • Foreign ministers from over 20 Western countries called for an immediate ceasefire and condemned Israel’s aid delivery model as dangerous and inhumane.
