Overview
- Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar and Zambian Foreign Minister Mulambo Haimbe inaugurated the embassy in Lusaka on Aug. 20.
- Sa’ar met President Hakainde Hichilema in Lusaka to discuss deeper bilateral ties as well as the war in Gaza.
- Israel said it is establishing a trauma and emergency unit at a hospital in Livingstone and expanding technical training for Zambians.
- Planned cooperation includes 11‑month agricultural internships in Israel and special courses in water management and food security.
- The opening follows decades of fluctuating ties, with relations cut in 1973, restored in 1991, and Zambia establishing an embassy in Tel Aviv in 2015 as the country’s Jewish community dwindled to near zero.
