Overview
- On Friday, June 27, the IDF and Israel Security Agency carried out a precision airstrike in Gaza City’s Sabra neighborhood that killed Hakham Muhammad Issa al-Issa.
- Al-Issa co-founded Hamas’s military wing and led its combat support headquarters, overseeing training, force buildup and the planning of the October 7, 2023, massacre.
- Israeli officials said removing al-Issa will significantly disrupt Hamas’s combat planning, training operations and ability to rebuild its organizational systems.
- The joint operation also eliminated Asaad Abu Sharia, head of the Mujahideen Brigades who worked closely with Palestinian Islamic Jihad militants.
- The IDF and ISA pledged to continue targeting senior operatives involved in the October 7 attack to further degrade Hamas’s operational capabilities.
