Israel Identifies Remains of Hostage Meny Godard Returned Under Gaza Ceasefire

The Red Cross–mediated handover reduces the number of deceased hostages believed still in Gaza to three, keeping pressure on stalled talks over the truce’s next phase.

Overview

  • Israel’s National Center of Forensic Medicine confirmed the remains as those of Meny (Manny) Godard, 73, and officials notified his family.
  • Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad said the body was located in the Khan Younis area, with the ICRC transferring the coffin to IDF and Shin Bet forces for handover to Israel.
  • The return brings the total deceased hostages returned to 25, with three still believed to be in Gaza: Ran Gvili, Dror Or and Thai national Sudthisak Rinthalak.
  • Under the exchange terms, Israel transferred another batch of 15 Palestinian bodies on Friday, with Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis reporting a cumulative 330 remains received.
  • Israel says militants are slow-walking or returning partial remains, while Hamas cites rubble and limited DNA capacity, and the unresolved returns are holding up movement to the ceasefire’s next phase.
