Israel Identifies Hostage Idan Shtivi as Second Body Recovered From Gaza

Forensic testing confirmed the 28-year-old Nova festival victim after a joint recovery by Israeli forces.

Overview

  • Israeli officials said Shtivi’s remains were retrieved in a joint IDFShin Bet mission that also recovered the body of Ilan Weiss.
  • The IDF described a coordinated operation involving the Southern Command, Military Intelligence, the Intelligence Directorate, the ISA and special units in central Gaza.
  • The National Center for Forensic Medicine, working with Israel Police and the Military Rabbinate, completed identification and notified Shtivi’s family.
  • With these recoveries, Israel says 48 hostages remain in Gaza, of whom 20 are believed to be alive.
  • Hostage families rallied in Tel Aviv, warning that Israel’s expanding offensive and plans to restrict aid in parts of northern Gaza could endanger those still held.
