Israel-Hamas Truce Begins with Prisoner Exchange

Four-day ceasefire sees captives and prisoners released, amid warnings that war could resume once truce ends

  • Israel and Hamas have begun a four-day truce, during which captives and prisoners are being released. On the first day, 24 captives held in Gaza and 39 Palestinian women and children held in Israeli jails were released.
  • During the truce, at least 50 captives are expected to be freed from Gaza, and 150 Palestinian prisoners are expected to be released from Israeli jails.
  • The truce comes after 48 days of war and bombardment that has resulted in thousands of deaths and significant destruction, particularly in northern Gaza.
  • Over 200 trucks carrying aid and fuel have entered Gaza, marking one of the biggest aid deliveries since the start of the war.
  • Despite the truce, both sides have warned that the war will resume at full throttle as soon as the truce is over.
