Israel-Hamas Conflict Intensifies Amid Ongoing Global Strife

As the death toll rises in the deadliest-ever Israel-Hamas war, conflicts in Ukraine, Sudan, and Central America continue unabated.

  • Israel's bloodiest war with Hamas began on October 7, resulting in the death of approximately 1,200 Israelis and more than 200 taken as hostages. This attack is described as the worst one-day mass killing of Jews since the Holocaust.
  • Israel's Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, launched a massive campaign of retaliatory airstrikes, resulting in the death of over 18,700 people in the Gaza Strip.
  • Despite the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, Russia's war on Ukraine continues. Ukraine has received tanks, weapons, and Western training, but progress is slow due to dug-in Russian troops, multiple defense lines, and minefields.
  • Sudan collapsed into civil war in April, pitting the country's military against the Rapid Support Forces. The conflict has resulted in approximately 9,000 deaths so far.
  • Drug cartel violence continues to surge in Mexico and other Central American nations, with Colombia reaching an all-time high for its production of coca, the leaf from which cocaine is made.
