• Israel’s Foreign Ministry said it withdrew Gali Dagan’s agrément request after Brasília did not respond and that dealings will continue at a lower diplomatic level.
• Brazilian newspaper Gazeta do Povo reported the government did not intend to accept Dagan following the retirement of Israel’s previous ambassador in Brasília.
• Brazil has not had an ambassador in Israel since recalling its envoy last year over the Gaza war.
• Relations further cooled after Brazil left the onal HolocaustHolocaust Remembrance Alliance in July and said it would join South Africa’s genocide case at the International Court of Justice.
• Israel had earlier declared President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva persona non grata following his comments labeling Israel’s actions “genocide” and likening them to Nazi crimes.
