Overview

  • On June 9 the Israel Defense Forces acknowledged the discovery of a narrow tunnel stretching under the European Gaza Hospital in Khan Younis.
  • According to the IDF, the tunnel served as a hideout for senior Hamas commander Muhammad Sinwar, who was killed there after an Israeli strike last month.
  • Brigadier General Effie Defrin escorted international journalists to the site to demonstrate allegations that Hamas uses hospitals to shield its military leadership.
  • Dr Salah al-Hams, the hospital spokesperson, said peripheral strikes wounded ten people inside the compound, damaged water and sewage systems and dislodged part of the roof, and killed 23 individuals in surrounding buildings.
  • The World Health Organization reports that Israel has carried out at least 686 attacks on Gaza health facilities since October 2023, putting 33 of the territory’s 36 hospitals out of service.
