Overview

  • Gaza’s Civil Defence reported Israeli units pulling back from parts of Gaza City and Khan Younis as the ceasefire framework takes hold, with the government saying the army will retain roughly 53% of the territory.
  • Israel says all hostages held in Gaza, living and deceased, are to be released within 72 hours of the truce taking effect, with authorities counting 47 still held and at least 25 confirmed dead.
  • A Hamas official said living hostages would be exchanged for nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners alongside specified Israeli withdrawals and a greater flow of humanitarian aid.
  • About 200 U.S. personnel directed by CENTCOM chief Adm. Brad Cooper will supervise and observe implementation, and U.S. officials say they will not be deployed inside Gaza.
  • Talks on a second phase covering Hamas disarmament, further Israeli withdrawals and governance are slated to begin immediately, as far-right Israeli ministers opposed the deal but did not leave the government.
