Israel Accuses Hamas of Violating Ceasefire with Incorrect Body Handover

The remains of two Bibas children were identified, but Israel claims Hamas failed to return their mother’s body as agreed.

  • Israel confirmed the identities of two children, Kfir and Ariel Bibas, who were killed while held captive by Hamas, but says the body of their mother, Shiri Bibas, was not returned as stipulated in the ceasefire agreement.
  • The Israeli military described the handover of an unidentified body in place of Shiri Bibas as a severe breach of the terms of the truce, sparking demands for Hamas to return all remaining captives and bodies.
  • Israeli officials, including UN Ambassador Danny Danon, condemned the act as a violation of moral and humanitarian principles, while U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio called for the eradication of Hamas.
  • The ceasefire agreement, which began in January, has so far facilitated the release of 19 living Israeli hostages and the exchange of over 1,100 Palestinian prisoners, with further exchanges planned.
  • Tensions escalated further after an attempted bombing of three empty buses near Tel Aviv, prompting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to announce intensified military operations in the West Bank.
