Ispace Plans Second Moon Mission 'Resilience' for Winter 2024
Following a failed first attempt, the Japanese startup will launch a small lunar rover to collect samples as part of a NASA contract.
- Japanese space startup Ispace is planning a second moon mission, following a failed attempt in April 2023.
- The second mission, named 'Resilience', is set to launch on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket in the northern hemisphere winter of 2024.
- Despite the previous mission's failure, Ispace gathered valuable data on subsystem performance, hardware, communications and orbital maneuvering.
- The new mission will include a small lunar rover developed by Ispace, which will explore the landing site and collect samples of regolith as part of a NASA contract.
- Ispace expects to complete the lander assembly by spring 2024, and then commence environmental testing.
