Overview
- The New York Islanders opened a public contest with an online jersey designer that is accepting submissions through July 24 and will put the final choice to a fan vote in August.
- The web tool lets users build on any of 15 historical base templates and pick any color combinations, including non-primary colors, while ensuring entries fit the NHL jersey template.
- A review committee will narrow entries to five finalists for the public vote and the winning creator will receive a team-signed jersey and tickets to see the uniform’s on-ice debut in the 2027–28 season.
- Islanders president of business operations Kelly Cheeseman framed the contest as inviting fans “directly into the design room” to break down traditional boundaries and give supporters real creative agency.
- The move follows the club’s history of alternate looks, from the classic blue and orange to the Fisherman Jack sweaters, and the team says this is the first time an NHL franchise has formally asked fans to design an official jersey.
