Islamabad Court Withdraws Warrants for Imaan Mazari and Husband, Sets Saturday Hearing

The case now moves to a Saturday hearing focused on counsel appointments.

Overview

  • Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Majoka withdrew non-bailable arrest warrants after Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chattha appeared in court, adjourning proceedings to November 8.
  • Chattha’s lawyer submitted a power of attorney, while the judge directed Mazari to file hers by Saturday and set that day for arguments on the role of a state-appointed counsel.
  • The prosecution pressed to begin recording witness testimony as the defence alleged due-process violations and insisted charges had not been read, which the judge said had occurred three times.
  • The case stems from an NCIA FIR under PECA sections 9, 10, 11 and 26 alleging the couple used social media to incite linguistic divisions and suggest security forces’ involvement in terrorism.
  • The court had issued non-bailable warrants and show-cause notices a day earlier over non-appearance, after the pair were indicted last week and entered not-guilty pleas.
