Islamabad Court Revokes Bail for Imaan Mazari, Orders Arrest and Ends Cross-Examination Right

Citing repeated absences alongside courtroom disruptions, the judge advanced the case to the stage for the accused to record statements.

Overview

  • Additional Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Majoka canceled interim bail, ordered arrest and production of Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chattha, and closed their right to question a prosecution witness after non-appearance.
  • The court scheduled the recording of statements under Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code for the next hearing, set for Friday.
  • A sharp exchange between Islamabad District Bar Association President Chaudhry Naeem Gujjar and Prosecutor Rana Usman led the judge to briefly leave the bench and pause proceedings.
  • Defense said Mazari was unwell and sought to personally cross-examine witness Shehroz, but the bench warned the right would be closed and later terminated after continued absence.
  • The case, filed by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency under PECA Sections 9, 10, 11 and 26 over alleged divisive social-media posts, has also drawn higher-court petitions and a reported Supreme Court pause earlier in the trial.
