ISL Resumes Feb. 14 With All 14 Clubs in Single-Round 91-Match Season

A government-backed stopgap gives AIFF temporary control with interim funding for a trimmed season.

Overview

  • Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya confirmed the restart after a meeting with AIFF and representatives of all 14 clubs in New Delhi.
  • AIFF will conduct the league this term and has set up a Rs 25 crore central pool, contributing about Rs 14 crore for the ISL and Rs 3.2 crore for the I-League.
  • The I-League will also return around the same time in a shortened 55-match format featuring all 11 clubs.
  • A new Governing Council is planned to oversee commercial decisions, with AIFF retaining veto power on core matters such as format and disciplinary issues.
  • Final fixtures, venues and broadcast arrangements are still being worked out, and ISL clubs have asked AIFF to seek a one-time AFC relaxation of the 24-match eligibility rule for continental competitions.
