ISL Clubs Press Supreme Court Amici for Urgent Ruling as 2025–26 Season Stalls

The clubs say a court stay tied to AIFF’s constitution case has frozen MRA talks, jeopardizing league operations.

Will the ISL resume this season? (AFP)

Overview

  • Eleven ISL clubs wrote on Aug. 21 to the Supreme Court’s amici curiae seeking a swift judgment at the Aug. 22 hearing or interim permission to proceed with league planning.
  • They asked that any directions following a verdict be implemented within 15–30 days to restore calendar certainty across the football pyramid.
  • The clubs attribute the deadlock to a verbal stay since April 30 that they say bars talks on renewing the Master Rights Agreement with FSDL.
  • FSDL put the 2025–26 season on hold on July 11 pending clarity on the MRA, which expires on Dec. 8, under which AIFF receives Rs 50 crore annually.
  • At least three teams have paused operations or suspended salaries, sponsors have withdrawn, and the signatories—excluding Mohun Bagan SG and Emami East Bengal—warn that losing one season would cause irreversible damage.
