ISIS India Suspect Saquib Nachan Dies in Custody Hospital After Brain Haemorrhage

All criminal proceedings will be abated under judicial protocol following his June 28 death in custody

Overview

  • Nachan was taken from Tihar Jail to Safdarjung Hospital on June 24 after doctors confirmed a brain haemorrhage and was pronounced dead at 12:10 pm on June 28
  • He had been held since his December 2023 arrest by the NIA in a nationwide ISIS module case spanning Delhi and Maharashtra
  • Authorities accused him of recruiting Muslim youth into ISIS, declaring Padgha village a self-styled “Al Sham” liberated zone and administering bay’ah to new members
  • His body was released to family after post-mortem and last rites were held at Borivali village near Padgha under tight security from Maharashtra ATS, local police and central agencies
  • No official statement has been issued by Delhi Police or hospital administrators on the exact circumstances of his haemorrhage
