IRS Warns 1.1 Million Americans to Claim $1,400 Stimulus by April 15 Deadline

Eligible taxpayers must file their 2021 tax returns to access unclaimed Recovery Rebate Credit or risk forfeiting funds to the U.S. Treasury.

The Recovery Rebate Credit provides up to $1,400 per individual and $2,800 for married couples filing jointly, with additional $1,400 payments for dependents.
Eligibility is income-dependent, phasing out completely at $80,000 for single filers and $160,000 for married couples filing jointly.
Approximately 1.1 million Americans have yet to file their 2021 tax returns, leaving over $1 billion in refunds and stimulus payments unclaimed.
The IRS automated payments for some eligible taxpayers in late 2024, but individuals who haven’t filed must do so by April 15, 2025, to claim funds.
Failure to meet the deadline will result in unclaimed payments reverting to the U.S. Treasury, with no extensions or additional automatic payments available.
