IRS Sends $1,400 Stimulus Payments to 1 Million Eligible Taxpayers

The IRS is automatically distributing $2.4 billion in missed COVID stimulus payments to taxpayers who failed to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit on their 2021 returns.

Approximately 1 million taxpayers are receiving stimulus payments of up to $1,400 each by late January 2025.
These payments are for individuals who were eligible for prior COVID stimulus checks but did not claim the Recovery Rebate Credit on their 2021 tax returns.
The IRS identified eligible recipients through internal data and is issuing payments automatically without requiring amended tax returns.
Taxpayers who have not yet filed their 2021 tax returns can still claim the Recovery Rebate Credit by the April 15, 2025 deadline.
The total distribution amounts to $2.4 billion, providing overdue financial relief to eligible individuals and families.
