Slab Collapse at Gandhinagar Site Leaves 15 Workers Injured, All Rescued

Rapid night-time cutting and lifting operations using heavy rescue gear that prevented fatalities prompted a technical probe that could lead to legal action

Overview

  • A third-floor slab at the Bosky The Empire commercial project in Kudasan, Gandhinagar gave way around 9:15 pm on Wednesday and trapped labourers under concrete and metal debris.
  • Local residents and fire teams began pulling victims out immediately and a coordinated SDRF, NDRF, municipal and police operation used plasma, gas and concrete cutters plus cranes to extricate all 15 workers overnight.
  • All 15 rescued workers were taken to Gandhinagar Civil Hospital where three were discharged and 12 remain admitted in non-critical condition; authorities reported no fatalities.
  • Initial accounts say an iron slab was being erected and some reports suggested a crane may have struck the ceiling, but municipal and district technical teams are examining centring, slab work, equipment use and safety compliance to establish the cause.
  • Senior state officials visited the site and hospital and have signalled possible legal or administrative action depending on probe findings in a broader context of heightened scrutiny of construction safety across Indian cities.
