Overview

  • On May 28, an iron ore freight train derailed inside a tunnel near Chimidipalli station on the KothavalasaKirandul line, causing 37 wagons to overturn.
  • Railway authorities confirmed there were no casualties among crew or trackside personnel.
  • A relief train and Railway Protection Force teams are working on a war footing to clear derailed wagons and repair heavily damaged track infrastructure.
  • Train movement on the Visakhapatnam–Kirandul and Koraput route remains suspended until full restoration, with passenger and freight services rerouted.
  • Indian Railways will temporarily add coaches to select express and special trains in June to manage passenger congestion resulting from the disruption.
