Irish Supreme Court Rejects McGregor’s Bid for Further Appeal in Nikita Hand Civil Rape Case

The refusal ends his avenues in Ireland’s civil courts.

Overview

  • The Supreme Court refused leave to appeal, finding no issue of general public importance and noting Conor McGregor already had a fair trial and a full appeal.
  • A panel of judges considered the applications recently and communicated today’s decisions to the parties.
  • James Lawrence’s separate attempt to appeal a refusal of his costs was also rejected; he had been found not to have assaulted Nikita Hand.
  • A High Court jury in November 2024 found McGregor raped Hand in December 2018 and awarded her almost €250,000 in damages, a ruling upheld by the Court of Appeal earlier this year.
  • Nikita Hand welcomed the ruling as vindication after seven years, and the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre said the decision concludes a distressing process for her.
