Irish Road Deaths Rose to 190 in 2025, Official Figures Show

Authorities call for a whole-of-government push with tougher policing in 2026.

  • RSA figures show 190 fatalities from 179 fatal collisions on public roads and in public places in 2025, up from 175 deaths in 2024.
  • On public roads alone, 185 people died in 174 fatal collisions, reflecting an increase on 2024.
  • The 2025 toll included 76 drivers, 41 pedestrians, 30 motorcyclists, 21 passengers, 14 cyclists and three e-scooter users.
  • Cyclist deaths reached the highest level since 2017 and motorcyclist fatalities the highest since 2007, while passenger deaths fell year-on-year.
  • Minister Seán Canney, RSA chief Sam Waide and Assistant Commissioner Catharina Gunne called for a whole-of-government strategy and targeted enforcement of intoxicated, speeding or distracted drivers in 2026.
