IRCTC Rolls Out Mandatory Aadhaar OTP For All Tatkal Bookings
The rollout reserves the first 30 minutes of each Tatkal window exclusively for individual travellers.
Overview
- As of July 16, all Tatkal bookings made online through IRCTC’s website and mobile app require OTP authentication via the passenger’s Aadhaar-linked mobile number.
- OTP verification is also mandatory at PRS counters and when booking through authorised agents to confirm traveller identities.
- Authorised agents cannot access the Tatkal booking window during the first 30 minutes for AC (10–10:30 am) and non-AC (11–11:30 am) classes.
- Passengers must link their Aadhaar number by entering their full name and 12-digit ID in their IRCTC profile via the website or RailOne app to generate the OTP.
- The new requirements build on earlier AI-driven anti-bot measures and mass ID deactivations intended to curb fraud and improve fair ticket access.
