Iraqi Couple Charged in Germany for Enslaving and Abusing Yazidi Girls
Prosecutors allege the couple, linked to ISIS, committed war crimes, genocide, and crimes against humanity by enslaving, torturing, and sexually abusing two young Yazidi girls.
- German federal prosecutors have charged an Iraqi couple, Twana H. S. and Asia R. A., with war crimes, genocide, and crimes against humanity for enslaving and abusing two Yazidi girls.
- The couple allegedly purchased the girls, aged five and twelve, at separate times in Iraq and subjected them to severe physical and sexual abuse while forcing them into domestic servitude.
- Prosecutors claim the man repeatedly raped both girls, while the woman prepared them for the assaults, including applying makeup to one of the victims.
- The victims were reportedly denied the practice of their Yazidi faith and endured harsh punishments, including being burned with hot water and forced to stand on one leg for extended periods.
- The accused, who were arrested in Bavaria in April, are also suspected of being members of ISIS and allegedly handed the girls over to other group members before fleeing Syria in 2017.
