Iranian Rapper Toomaj Salehi Rearrested Following Recent Release

Iranian rapper Toomaj Salehi was rearrested less than two weeks after his release from prison. He had previously been detained for over a year, mostly in solitary confinement, on charges related to supporting the widespread protest movement in Iran.
Salehi's arrest occurred violently on a street in Babol, with witnesses reporting that plain-clothed men attacked the group he was with, striking him with rifles before taking him into custody.
Salehi has been a vocal supporter of protests triggered by the death of Mahsa Amini, a young Kurdish Iranian woman who died after being detained by the 'morality police' for allegedly not wearing her hijab properly.
After his initial arrest in 2022, Salehi was sentenced to over six years in prison. He was released on bail in November 2023 after his attorney filed a successful appeal, citing improper medical care for Salehi's broken leg and a general amnesty order by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The Iranian judiciary news agency Mizan stated that Salehi was arrested for making false claims on social media and disturbing public opinion. Salehi had recently begun treatment for injuries sustained in prison and was scheduled for surgery.
