Iran Identifies Alleged Mastermind Behind Deadly Twin Bombings
Tajik National Abdollah Tajiki Accused of Planning Attacks that Killed 94 at Soleimani Commemoration
- Iran's intelligence ministry has identified a Tajik national, known by his alias Abdollah Tajiki, as the alleged mastermind behind the twin suicide bombings on January 3 in Kerman.
- The bombings, claimed by the Islamic State group, targeted a commemoration for Iranian general Qassem Soleimani and resulted in at least 94 deaths, including 14 Afghan nationals.
- One of the bombers, a 24-year-old man with Tajik and Israeli nationality, was identified by his family name of Bozrov. He reportedly entered Iran after months of training by IS in Afghanistan.
- The identity of the second suicide bomber remains unknown. The Islamic State group had identified the two bombers as Omar al-Mowahed and Seif-Allah al-Mujahed.
- Iranian authorities have arrested 35 people across several provinces in connection with the bombings.
