Iran Executes Six in Khuzestan, State Media Reports Separate Execution of Kurdish Fighter

Rights groups say the killings reflect a post-June crackdown with a record execution count in 2025.

Overview

  • The judiciary’s Mizan agency said six 'separatist terrorist elements' were put to death at dawn in Khuzestan province on Saturday.
  • Mizan reported the six were tied to the 2018–2019 killings of two police officers and two Basij members and had confessed to sabotage including bombing a Khorramshahr gas station.
  • In a separate case, Kurdish fighter Saman Mohammadi was hanged after a conviction for Moharebeh, with state media linking him to the 2009 killing of a Friday prayers leader and other violent crimes.
  • The latest executions followed last week’s hanging of Bahman Choobiasl, whom authorities called a key Israeli spy, after the Supreme Court upheld a 'corruption on Earth' death sentence.
  • Advocacy groups including Iran Human Rights and the Abdorrahman Boroumand Center say more than 1,000 people have been executed in Iran this year, and classify the country as the second-most prolific executioner after China.
