Iran Executes Dual Citizen Linked to Deadly 2018 Terror Attack

Iran hanged a Swedish-Iranian dissident who they alleged led an Arab separatist group responsible for an attack on a military parade in 2018 that killed 25 people.
Farajollah Cha'ab held Iranian and Swedish citizenship but was living in Sweden before being arrested in Turkey and extradited to Iran in 2020.
Cha'ab was sentenced to death for "corruption on earth" and executed on May 6, according to Iranian media reports.
Sweden had protested Cha'ab's death sentence, and relations with Iran were already strained over a Swedish court jailing a former Iranian official for mass executions in 1988.
Iran has tense relations with its ethnic minorities like Arabs and Kurds, accusing them of links to rival nations like Saudi Arabia.
