Iran Conditions Nuclear Talks on No-Attack Guarantees and Overhauled IAEA Oversight

Iran has said it will resume nuclear talks only after receiving firm assurances against further strikes under a new IAEA oversight framework.

As per Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Tehran is ready to come back to the table, but only if the US vows that no more attacks will be carried out against the Gulf nation.

Overview

  • Araghchi told diplomats that Tehran will only return to negotiations if Washington and its allies deliver an iron-clad pledge that no further airstrikes will target its nuclear facilities.
  • Iran’s parliament enacted a law suspending routine IAEA cooperation, and the foreign minister said future inspections will be managed case by case by the Supreme National Security Council.
  • Tehran reiterated it will not agree to any deal blocking its right under the Non-Proliferation Treaty to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes.
  • Reports that President Putin privately backed a zero-enrichment condition have been denied by Iran, underscoring tensions over external mediation efforts.
  • With no date or venue set, Iran says diplomatic channels remain open but frozen as it weighs timing, format and security guarantees for any resumed talks.
