Overview

  • Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi and envoys from the U.K., France and Germany convened for four-hour “serious, frank and detailed” talks in Istanbul on July 25.
  • The E3 have set a late-August threshold to trigger a snapback of UN sanctions lifted under the 2015 deal if Tehran does not resume full cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency.
  • Tehran has suspended routine IAEA monitoring, demanded binding legal guarantees against military action and insisted on preserving its right to enrich uranium for civilian purposes.
  • IAEA figures indicate Iran’s stockpile of uranium enriched to 60% purity has grown to over 400 kilograms, just below weapons-grade levels.
  • Both sides agreed to continue consultations on restoring inspections and defining steps for sanctions relief before the snapback mechanism window closes.
