Iran-Aligned Hackers Say They Breached Ex‑IDF Chief Halevi’s Phone, Publish Thousands of Files

A news outlet says it viewed samples from the unverified trove, which could expose sensitive sites if authentic.

Overview

  • The Handala Hack Team claimed it pulled more than 19,000 images and videos from the personal phone of former Israeli army chief Herzi Halevi after a years-long operation.
  • Middle East Eye reported seeing some files that appeared to show Halevi in high-level meetings, including an undated photo in Qatar with former US CENTCOM chief Michael Kurilla and footage with Jordan’s military chief Yousef Huneiti.
  • The group said the cache includes visuals of secret facilities, maps, crisis rooms, and command centers, which could reveal locations, layouts, and personnel identities.
  • The hackers also posted personal items such as family photos, the ID cards of Halevi and his wife, and a video they framed as embarrassing, raising privacy and safety concerns for those pictured.
  • The group warned that it holds more material for phased release and has previously touted hacks of figures like Naftali Bennett and Ayelet Shaked, underscoring an ongoing campaign against senior Israeli officials.
