Iran-affiliated hackers have breached multiple organizations across several U.S. states, targeting an Israeli-made industrial control device.
The compromised organizations include a small Pennsylvania water authority, four other utilities, and an aquarium.
The hackers, known as 'Cyber Av3ngers', are believed to be affiliated with Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, designated as a foreign terrorist organization by the U.S. in 2019.
The hackers have been targeting Unitronics Vision Series programmable logic controllers, which are used in various industries including water and wastewater systems, energy, food and beverage manufacturing, and healthcare.
The hackers left a digital calling card on the compromised device, declaring all Israeli-made equipment as a 'legal target'.
