Iraí School Director Identified After Student Van Hits Disabled Truck on BR-386, Leaving 1 Dead and 14 Hurt

Overview

• Police said the van rear-ended a truck that had suffered a mechanical failure and was stopped at km 237 of BR-386 around 11 p.m. Friday.
• One victim, identified by the Iraí municipality as school director Lisete Jardinello, died after being resuscitated and hospitalized.
• Fourteen people were injured, including five adolescents and two teachers with serious injuries, while six students and the van driver had abrasions and the truck driver was unhurt.
• All injured were taken to Hospital Frei Clemente in Soledade, and two students with fractures were transferred to Hospital de Tenente Portela.
• The group was returning to Iraí from a water park in Capão da Canoa, and traffic at the crash site was fully restored around 5 a.m.
