iPhone 17 Preorders Outpace Last Year as Pro Max Leads and China Sets Records

Strong early demand has pushed iPhone 17 Pro Max delivery windows into October.

Overview

  • Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reports first-weekend demand exceeded the iPhone 16 cycle, with Q3 production plans up about 25% overall and roughly 60% for the Pro Max.
  • In China, JD.com orders topped last year’s first-day total within a minute, Shanghai Pro Max pickup slots filled in 20 minutes, and some Guangzhou deliveries now show mid-October.
  • Bank of America says iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are seeing the longest shipment delays at this stage since the iPhone 11, even with increased build plans.
  • Apple has postponed the iPhone Air’s launch in China pending eSIM regulatory approval, which is affecting early read-throughs on that model’s demand.
  • India’s rollout begins September 19 with broad retailer participation, card-linked discounts and EMI offers, and Blinkit pledging 10-minute deliveries.
