iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max Now Able to Record Spatial Videos for Upcoming Vision Pro

The new feature is part of the iOS 17.2 beta update, allowing users to prepare 3D content for Apple's mixed reality headset, set to launch in early 2024.

  • Apple has released the iOS 17.2 beta update, which includes the ability for iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max users to record spatial videos in preparation for the launch of Apple's mixed reality headset, Vision Pro, in early 2024.
  • Spatial video capture is exclusive to iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max due to their specific camera arrangement, which simulates human eyes and allows for stereoscopic capture.
  • The spatial video recording process is straightforward and user-friendly, but it has some limitations, including a maximum resolution of 1080p and the inability to switch between lenses or zoom.
  • Spatial videos can be viewed in 3D only on the Vision Pro headset, providing a lifelike and immersive viewing experience. On any other device, the spatial video plays in 2D.
  • Apple plans to introduce the ability to edit spatial videos in its Final Cut Pro software next year. Until then, spatial videos can only be trimmed, and any further edits will convert them into 2D files.
