• 13-year-old Adam McWherter was struck by an SUV while sledding near his home in Anamosa, Iowa, and died 10 days later from his injuries.
• McWherter was racing a friend downhill on his driveway when he went into the street and was unable to stop before colliding with the SUV.
• The driver of the SUV, David Thomas, attempted to brake but could not stop in time. His vehicle slid into a ditch after the collision.
