An Iowa school district has apologized after using a quote attributed to Nazi leader Heinrich Himmler as its 'Respect Quote of the Day'.
The quote, 'My honor is my loyalty', was used in an email to parents and over a public-address system for middle school students in Indianola.
The district's superintendent, Ted Ihns, said the use of the quote was 'completely unintentional' and that a staff member did not realize the quote's origin.
Ihns has promised to implement a new process for the 'Respect Quote of the Day' to ensure all quotes are double-checked and appropriate for students.
The incident comes amid a spike in antisemitic and Islamophobic incidents nationwide, as reported by the US Department of Education and various organizations.
