Iowa QB Cade McNamara Enters Transfer Portal, Seeks 7th Season

McNamara plans to petition the NCAA for an additional year of eligibility following injuries and a limited 2022 season.

Cade McNamara, former Michigan and Iowa quarterback, announced his decision to transfer and seek a seventh college football season in 2025.
The 24-year-old will petition the NCAA for a medical redshirt to regain eligibility for the 2022 season, during which he played only three games due to a knee injury.
McNamara sustained multiple injuries during his two years at Iowa, including a torn ACL in 2023 and a concussion in 2024, limiting him to 13 games with the program.
He previously led Michigan to a Big Ten championship and College Football Playoff appearance in 2021 before transferring to Iowa in 2023 after losing the starting role to J.J. McCarthy.
The NCAA must approve McNamara’s waiver request for him to compete next season, with his next team yet to be determined.
