Iowa Hawkeyes Clinch Share of Big Ten West with Victory Over Rutgers

Impressive offensive and defensive performance puts Hawkeyes in strong position to win West Division title outright

  • The Iowa Hawkeyes clinched a share of the Big Ten West title with a 22-0 victory over Rutgers, marking their first shutout of the season and their first since blanking Kentucky 21-0 in the Music City Bowl.
  • Iowa's defense was particularly impressive, holding the Big Ten's leading rusher, Kyle Monangai, to just 39 yards. Rutgers was limited to 127 total yards.
  • Iowa's offense exceeded 400 yards for the first time in 32 games, generating 402 yards against a defense that had previously allowed just 282.4 per game.
  • Sophomore quarterback Deacon Hill had his best game at Iowa, completing 20 of 31 passes for 223 yards with a touchdown and an interception.
  • With two games left, Iowa could clinch a spot in the Big Ten title game with a win against either Illinois or Nebraska. The Hawkeyes haven't lost at home to Illinois since 2000 or at Nebraska since 2011.
