Overview

  • Search warrants were executed at the Kingdom Ministry of Rehab and Recreation’s Shekinah Glory Camp in Columbus Junction and at a Fredonia site on June 12 and 13, resulting in the removal of 88 minors.
  • The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services placed the children in temporary foster care until they can be reunited with their parents or legal guardians.
  • The Louisa County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and Columbus Junction Police Department are jointly pursuing evidence of alleged human trafficking and child endangerment.
  • No arrests have been reported so far, and camp organizers deny any abuse, saying they separate attendees by age and gender and provide food, shelter and Bible study activities.
  • The camp is run by pastors from Burma’s Chin ethnic minority and serves individuals affected by drugs, alcohol and nicotine, drawing participants from across the United States.
