  • iOS 26 beta 3 adds a Backgrounds option in Messages so users can choose photos, solid colors, AI-generated designs or themes like Sky, Water and Aurora.
  • Any background change in a conversation applies for all participants and is visible across devices signed into the same Apple ID.
  • Custom backgrounds sync automatically between iPhone, iPad and Mac running iOS 26, iPadOS 26 or macOS Tahoe without extra setup.
  • On iPhone 15 Pro and newer models, Apple Intelligence’s Image Playground lets users describe scenes to generate unique chat wallpapers.
  • Apple plans to expand testing from developers to public beta participants in July ahead of a general iOS 26 release this fall.
