Overview
- Live Translation in Messages requires Apple Intelligence on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16, iPhone Air, or iPhone 17 models.
- Users enable the feature per conversation, choose a Translate From language, and typically download a roughly 900MB language pack.
- Outgoing texts show both the original and translated versions on the sender’s device, while recipients see messages in their preferred language only if they use iOS 26, iPadOS 26, or macOS Tahoe.
- In-conversation controls let users switch between bilingual view, a single-language view, or pause translation from a “Translating [language]” tab.
- Launch support covers nine languages, and Apple’s iOS 26.1 betas are already expanding Apple Intelligence language coverage and AirPods translation, though replies aren’t translated for recipients on older software or Android.
