Apple and Google may bring a new way to seamlessly transfer eSIM, here’s what we know.

Overview

  • References to a “Transfer to Android” option were found in Android 16 QPR1 beta’s SIM Manager, indicating cross-platform support in Apple’s next update.
  • The new feature is expected under Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone, enabling direct eSIM handoffs without calling a carrier.
  • Users may scan a QR code on the Android device and enter a session ID and passcode generated by the iPhone as a fallback method.
  • Only iPhones running iOS 19 or later and Android phones on the corresponding Android 16 update would support the transfer tool.
  • Apple and Google are collaborating on the functionality, which is slated for an announcement at WWDC 2025 and a public release with iOS 19 in September.
