Apple and Google may bring a new way to seamlessly transfer eSIM, here’s what we know.

Overview

  • iOS 19 may add a “Transfer to Android” option under Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone for wireless eSIM handoffs
  • Strings found in Google’s SIM Manager during the Android 16 QPR1 beta reference the upcoming cross-platform transfer feature
  • The handoff process is expected to generate a QR code for scanning and prompt users to enter a session ID and passcode if a wireless link fails
  • Both devices will need to run iOS 19 or later and Android 16 QPR1 or later, with carriers required to support cross-platform eSIM migrations
  • Apple and Google are likely to officially unveil the feature at WWDC 2025 on June 9, aiming to simplify switching in eSIM-only iPhone markets
