IOPC Probes Police Car Crash That Killed Pedestrian David Clark in Central London

Mr Clark's family requests privacy during an early independent inquiry.

Overview

  • David Clark, 35, an Australian living in Scunthorpe, died after a marked Met Police vehicle struck him on Borough High Street shortly after 12:30am on January 7.
  • Two police vehicles were responding to an emergency with sirens and lights activated when the first car hit Mr Clark at the Great Suffolk Street and Trinity Street junction.
  • Officers from both vehicles stopped and gave first aid, but Mr Clark was pronounced dead at the scene.
  • The IOPC says it has reviewed CCTV and body‑worn video, completed a post‑mortem, and is treating the officers involved as witnesses while awaiting an inquest date and conducting further CCTV enquiries.
  • Mr Clark’s wife issued a public tribute and asked for privacy as friends launched a GoFundMe for repatriation, which has raised just over £15,000.
