Boxing's Olympic status is contingent on the recognition of World Boxing, provisionally approved by the IOC in February 2025, as the sport's governing body.
The IOC stripped the International Boxing Association (IBA) of its Olympic status in 2023 due to governance, financial, and ethical concerns.
World Boxing, founded as an alternative to the IBA, now has 84 member nations and has been instrumental in securing the sport's Olympic future.
The IOC previously managed boxing at the Tokyo 2021 and Paris 2024 Olympics following the suspension of the IBA in 2019.
